Why I’m Starting an Online Business From Scratch – And What You Can Learn From It
Starting an online business from scratch is exciting—but it’s also overwhelming. I know because I’ve been there. I always had this pull toward self-employment, but for the longest time, I believed that success meant climbing the corporate ladder—getting a high-level job at a big company, managing teams, and working my way up. No one forced this idea on me, but somehow, I thought that was just how success was supposed to look.
But even before I graduated college, that belief started to crack. I worked part-time jobs during my studies, and while I enjoyed them, I realized that no matter how good the job was, I felt restricted by the structure. The idea of working 40 years in a structured job, planning my vacations and personal life around someone else’s schedule, felt like a prison I hadn’t even stepped into yet. The more I thought about it, the more I knew—I needed something different.
So, I decided to start my own business. Not because I had it all figured out. Not because I had one “perfect” idea. In fact, I’m a multi-passionate overthinker, constantly full of ideas, making the decision even harder. But the desire to create something of my own—to have freedom, purpose, and control over my life—became impossible to ignore. More than that, I wanted to make a difference in my own way—to help people grow, find clarity, and build something meaningful.
If you’re reading this, maybe you feel the same way. Maybe you’ve thought about starting something of your own, but fear, uncertainty, or too many ideas are holding you back. If so, keep reading—because I’m going to share why I’m building this business from scratch and what you can take away from my journey.
Why I’m Starting an Online Business From Scratch
Starting my own online business wasn’t just about freedom and flexibility—it was about creating something that is fully mine. In a traditional job, no matter how much you love your work, there are always limits. Someone else sets the deadlines, someone else decides the direction, and someone else ultimately has control. I knew that if I ever wanted to truly own my time, my impact, and my future, I had to build something for myself.
But choosing what to do wasn’t easy. I’ve had countless business ideas—wedding planner, brand designer, social media expert, web designer.. the list goes on. But every time I imagined working for someone else as a freelancer, it felt like I was still trapped in someone else’s structure. I wanted to build something that allowed me to work on my own terms. That’s on reason why I chose coaching and consulting.
Why a Coaching and Consulting Business?
Because transformation excites me. I don’t just want to provide a service—I want to help people unlock their potential and build something meaningful. Coaching allows me to guide others in finding their own answers, helping them gain clarity, confidence, and direction. Consulting then gives me the chance to share my insights, strategies, and real-life experiences to support them on their journey.
This business is the perfect mix of everything I love—communication, psychology, mindset, personal development, and design. I get to combine strategy with creativity, logic with emotions, and structure with flexibility. And on top of that, it allows me to tap into my passion for photography and videography as I build my personal brand.
The Most Exciting Part of Starting a Coaching Business
Honestly? Everything. Learning new things, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and knowing that I’m working toward something that will completely transform my life.
But what excites me the most is seeing the impact I will have on others. My vision is to help my clients find clarity, build their confidence, and get excited about their own coaching business journey. I don’t just want to teach strategy—I want to help them believe in themselves.
And on a personal level, this business isn’t just about work—it’s about designing a life that truly fits me. A life where I can be 100% authentic, create my own work-life balance, and build something that aligns with my values. This isn’t just a business—it’s the foundation for the life I want.
My Challenges and Lessons So Far
Building a coaching and consulting business can be fun, but it also comes with a lot of internal battles. For me, the hardest part has been self-doubt, overthinking, and finding clarity—especially as a multi-passionate person. I’ve always had too many ideas, too many passions, and too many directions to explore. Making a final decision on what to focus on felt impossible.
Then there’s perfectionism. I’d make a plan, start taking action, and then—if I missed a week of posting or didn’t follow my strategy perfectly—I’d tell myself I’d already messed up, so why even bother? The pressure to “do it right” became the thing holding me back the most.
But the biggest lesson I’ve learned? Progress doesn’t come from massive leaps. It comes from small, consistent actions. The tiniest habits—the things that feel so insignificant in the moment—are what actually move you forward.
I also completely underestimated the power of visualization. I used to think it was just wishful thinking, but deep visualization—combined with action—changes everything. When I can clearly see where I want to go, I act differently. And that changes my results.
One more surprising realization? No one has it all figured out. Even the most successful entrepreneurs, the ones making thousands or millions, are still learning as they go. Everyone is just figuring things out one step at a time. The difference is that they take action before feeling ready.
These lessons have completely reshaped how I approach both, work and personal life. Journaling has helped me process my doubts. Accepting that my business is part of my life, not separate from it, has helped me embrace a more authentic approach. I no longer ask myself, “What kind of business do I want?” but rather, “What kind of life do I want, and what business fits into that?”
That shift alone has changed everything!
What You Can Learn From My Journey
If you’re in the same position I was when starting—feeling overwhelmed, stuck in overthinking, and unsure where to begin—here’s my advice to you:
📖 Journal. Write down your thoughts, set big goals, and break them into small, actionable steps. Journaling isn’t just for reflection; it helps you process your doubts, visualize your future, and gain clarity on your next moves.
🎯 Just start. Stop waiting for the perfect moment (it won’t come). Stop overthinking. Stop planning every detail. Just take action. Even the tiniest steps move you forward.
⚡ Create more than you consume. Social media can be inspiring, but it’s also overwhelming—even if you’re following the right people. Shift your focus from watching others to building something for yourself.
💡 Build habits, not just motivation. Motivation is great, but it won’t always be there. What really makes a difference? Small, consistent habits. Five minutes a day of focused action is more powerful than an hour of overthinking.
🎙️ Set yourself up for success. My biggest shifts came from creating a strong morning routine, journaling, visualizing, meditation and listening to podcasts that fuel my growth.
If you take away just one thing from my journey, let it be this: Motivation is what gets you going, but discipline and consistency are what keep you growing. Never underestimate the power of small, actionable steps—they are what create real change over time.
If you’ve made it this far, I want you to walk away with this: You are not alone. Every entrepreneur, no matter how successful they seem, has been where you are—questioning, doubting, overthinking, and wondering if they’re making the right choice. I’m still in the beginning of my journey, too. And even though I haven’t built a successful online business yet, the lessons I’ve learned about myself have already changed everything.
Even if my business fails, I won’t see it as failure—because the process itself has shaped me into someone who thinks differently, who grows through challenges, and who takes action despite all the doubts. And if you take that first step, you’ll experience that same shift, too.
So here’s what you can do today:
Ask yourself—deeply—Who am I? What do I truly want? What kind of life do I want to create, and what kind of business would fit into that life? Just sit with those questions, write them down, and see what comes up.
